The story begins after the protagonist escapes prison and reaches Ashenridge, a mountain town where they try to rebuild their life as a farmer. That apparent peace is shattered when a series of murders reveals that a killer with supernatural ties is hiding among the townspeople.
The game combines farming, fishing, mining, crafting and trading with an investigation that asks players to gather clues, earn the residents' trust and protect the next victim. Friendships, romances and player choices can alter the story — and it is even possible to become romantically involved with the culprit.
