Hell Rising, the first Nioh 3 expansion, is available from August 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. The content is included in the Season Pass and requires Team NINJA's base game.
The story transports Takechiyo to Edo in 1651 during the Keian era. Following the future shogun's death, the city has fallen back under the Crucible's power. The protagonist joins forces with one-eyed swordsman Yagyu Jubei and Spanish envoy Rodrigo to investigate another Spirit Stone conspiracy.
The expansion adds a new open field, fresh yokai and human opponents, Guardian Spirits, Soul Cores, Martial Arts, Ninjutsu and two hoko-and-shield variants for the Samurai and Ninja styles. The weapon set lets players defend while striking with a short spear and even throw the shield at enemies.
Players looking for a greater challenge can enter the Enlightened One's Journey, a third-playthrough difficulty featuring curse-enhanced enemies and divine-rarity rewards. Hundred Demon Realms Picture Scrolls also introduce generated battles with variable rules and customizable equipment effects.
