Blizzard has detailed Diablo V's core classes and systems for the first time. The Demon Hunter and Monk return alongside the all-new Plague Knight, a heavily armoured fighter who spreads disease across the battlefield and then consumes it for power. They are only the first three classes in a roster that will continue to grow.

Players become the Heir to Westmarch, hunted because of a still-mysterious connection to Diablo. Sanctuary has already fallen and its Western Continent has become an outpost of Hell. The world uses procedural elements: terrain, points of interest, enemies and rewards can change when the player returns to an area.

Towns will no longer serve as the main refuge. Players build a travelling caravan of survivors who act as merchants and companions, including a former Sister of the Sightless Eye and a stranded Treasure Goblin. Equipment brings back stat requirements, differently sized inventory items, gear sets, Runes and Runewords, with Diablo II serving as a key inspiration.

Diablo V retains its official spring 2029 launch window, and Blizzard plans to begin sharing regular development updates in 2027. The studio has not announced platforms, a beta or a specific release day, so LanzaBit keeps those fields unconfirmed.
